OFFF Oeiras'09 - Dia 1

I didn't start in the morning of the first day of the festival, and I got on time for the 17:00 session. Started my own festival wondering around the various spaces, and I was startled to see a version of Bordalo Pinheiro's "Zé Povinho", mixed with Caldas da Rainha's typical ceramic, being used as "advertising" from a portuguese publicity school... I thought it was lack of imagination, but in this things of creativity and design I know very little, so I am not going to say no more. The rest of the spaces vary from the simple "chillout" to the Mercadillo where you can buy peaces from some artists, to the music space Loopita for those who like electronic sounds, and the exibition of some very interesting works! It even has a place where you can go charge all your machinery (aka laptops, cell phones, cameras, anything you want).

It's in the Roots area where the big action occurs, and where we could see Jason Brugues Studio's session, an artist that mixes architecture with art to do some very interesting things like interactive architecture art on buildings. The next ones talking, United Visual Artists (U.V.A.) went on with this theme (and very nicelly done). I didn't know this kind of works and I enjoyed very much watching! Too bad we don't see this kind of stuff in Portugal.
Darth Vader was wondering around the place... Being an incondicional fan, I couldn't help the "Paparazzi Moment", done with my cell phone. This is the result!
What came next was, for me, the best of the day (considering I've only seen half). The collaboration between James Paterson, an illustrator, and Amit Pitaru, a composer, resulted into something brilliant to my eyes. A graphical, visual way of seeing music, sound. Being music so connected to who I am, seeing some ways of making the connection between different forms of art is really wonderful.
The last session was the one from Chris Milk. Director. I only saw the first 5 minutes, and they didn't catch my attention. It was late, and I went home.
